KUALA LUMPUR: Four students from Malaysia have won global awards from ACCA (The Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) for their outstanding performance in their 2010 exams.
Helen Brand, ACCA’s chief executive met the four Malaysians at a special event organised to celebrate their success. The four are amongst only 33 students from around the world to have won awards for the global accountancy body’s most recent examination session.
Ang Chee Hou, Thong Ei Leen, Chuang Vi Kie and Adeline Wan Siew Mei all scored the highest marks in one of their exam papers. In 2010, over 205,000 students sat for ACCA exams, including more than 15,000 students from Malaysia.
Helen Brand said of the four students: “I’m very happy to be able to congratulate these four highly deserving students in person. The time and effort they have dedicated to their studies have allowed them to achieve exceptional results in the 2010 exams, and these awards are a small way of ACCA saying well done to them.”
Jennifer Lopez, country head, ACCA Malaysia, says: “These students’ hard work and dedication is to be commended. I’m pleased that these outstanding students have managed to epitomise the spirit of cultivating first-class human capital as outlined in Malaysia’s ETP and raise the profile of our nation.”
Ang Chee Hou from Telok Panglima Garang scored the highest mark in the ACCA Qualification for Paper F6, which specialises in Taxation. He is a full time student at a private university, and already holds ACCA’s CAT Qualification (Certified Accounting Technician). When asked why he chose the ACCA Qualification, he said: “It is mainly due to the recommendations of my friends and family, but I was also informed that ACCA is one of the globally recognized professional qualifications that almost every accountant in Malaysia wishes to hold.”
Thong Ei Leen, who comes from Shah Alam, obtained the highest mark for Paper P4 – Advanced Financial Management. She is currently an audit associate at one of the Big Four. When asked what made her decide she wanted to pursue a career in accountancy, she explained: “I want a career in business and I believe a professional qualification in accountancy from ACCA will provide me with a solid foundation to climb the corporate ladder.”
Chuang Vi Kie is a full-time student from Kuala Lumpur who dreams to one day become the CFO of one of the public listed companies. She ranked second in the Certified Accounting Technician (CAT) exams.
“This qualification provides a strong foundation in accounting and finance knowledge, as well as skills and professional values needed by all organisations. It will help me develop the necessary competences to one day become CFO of one of the public listed
companies”, she said.
Adeline Wan Siew Mei from Subang Jaya scored the highest mark for Paper P2 – Corporate Reporting. She has already been awarded an ACCA prize last year for her excellent results in the F7 – Financial Reporting exam.
“As soon as I knew that I had passed my final exams, I messaged my P2 lecturer, because I knew she would be the happiest about it. And I checked the e-mail with my results again and again, just to make sure!” she said.
After exam results are released, ACCA recognises exceptionally talented students from around the world. Awards are given to the highest performing ACCA and CAT students.
Jennifer Lopez continues: “With Malaysia’s Economic Transformation Programme
(ETP) forecasting the need for 60,000 accountants by 2020, I would like to remind all ACCA students that the ACCA Qualification provides a framework of leading-edge examinations, practical experience requirements and ethical developments – essential in a world where demand for talent continues to outstrip supply.”
Helen Brand concludes: “After having made so many sacrifices and worked so hard, I am confident that I will soon be welcoming these ACCA students into membership.
